Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A journal of self-discovery, Finding the Phoenix, by author Dr. Karel James Bouse introduces seven tools for transformative self-discovery, including how to deconstruct one’s lenses, consciousness and identity; use expressive arts to access hidden elements of the self; connect with nature from a mystical perspective; find the meaning of your dreams; use Neo-shamanic techniques for interdimensional self-exploration, demystify anomalous experiences and phenomena; and construct a personal mythology to discover your life purpose. Used synergistically, these tools facilitate a deep, personal investigation that bridges and integrates the conscious with the unconscious, and the mythic with the mundane. Bouse provides you with background information based in academic, scientific, and professional psychological research, and detailed exercises as you follow the fictional “Lucy” through a series of workshops designed to help you find the phoenix of your authentic self. Finding the Phoenix offers a combination of thoughtful instructions, rich personal narrative from the perspective of Lucy, and experiential exercises designed to evoke insight, creativity, and personal development.

Download or read book MacLaren's Commentary- Expositions of Holy Scripture written by Alexander MacLaren and published by Delmarva Publications, Inc.. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All thirty-two of the original volumes are included in this one volume. There are two linked indexes in this volume, a main index at the front of this volume that will take you to the beginning each of the books of the bible and another index at the beginning of each book there is a linked scripture index leading to the particular subject. MacLaren’s Expositions of Holy Scripture is considered one of the greatest expositor’s commentary of all time. This commentary has more than 1,500 sermons arranged in canonical order with more than 46,000 scriptural references, making this collection one of the fullest expositor’s commentary ever. For his work MacLaren drew praise from many. A. T. Robertson Said of MacLaren “His matchless discourses are the fruit of the most exact scholarship and spiritual enthusiasm.” F. B. Meyer said “As an expository preacher none of them equaled MacLaren of Manchester, and no other sermons were so widely read the world around.” MacLaren was born in Glasgow on February 11, 1826, and died in Manchester on May 5, 1910. He had been for almost sixty-five years a minister, entirely devoted to his calling. He lived more than almost any of the great preachers of his time between his study, his pulpit, his pen. His ministry fell into a quiet routine for which he was always grateful: two sermons on Sunday, a Monday prayer meeting and a Thursday service and lecture. His parishioners thought his sermons to them were the best he ever preached. In April 1858 he was called to be minister at Union Chapel in Manchester. No ministry could have been happier. The church prospered and a new building had to be erected to seat 1,500; every sitting was taken. His renown as preacher spread throughout the English-speaking world. His pulpit became his throne. He was twice elected President of the Baptist Union. He resigned as pastor in 1905 after a ministry of forty-five years. MacLaren’s religious life was hid with Christ in God. He walked with God day by day. He loved Jesus Christ with a reverent, holy love and lived to make Him known. In his farewell sermon at Union he said: "To efface oneself is one of a preacher’s first duties."

Book excerpt: This book puts a finger on the nerve of culture by delving into the social life of touch, our most elusive yet most vital sense. From the tortures of the Inquisition to the corporeal comforts of modernity, and from the tactile therapies of Asian medicine to the virtual tactility of cyberspace, The Book of Touch offers excursions into a sensory territory both foreign and familiar. How are masculine and feminine identities shaped by touch? What are the tactile experiences of the blind, or the autistic? How is touch developed differently across cultures? What are the boundaries of pain and pleasure? Is there a politics of touch? Bringing together classic writings and new work, this is an essential guide for anyone interested in the body, the senses and the experiential world.

Download or read book Green Mass written by Michael Marder and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Green Mass is a meditation on—and with—twelfth-century Christian mystic and polymath Saint Hildegard of Bingen. Attending to Hildegard's vegetal vision, which greens theological tradition and imbues plant life with spirit, philosopher Michael Marder uncovers a verdant mode of thinking. The book stages a fresh encounter between present-day and premodern concerns, ecology and theology, philosophy and mysticism, the material and the spiritual, in word and sound. Hildegard's lush notion of viriditas, the vegetal power of creation, is emblematic of her deeply entwined understanding of physical reality and spiritual elevation. From blossoming flora to burning desert, Marder plays with the symphonic multiplicity of meanings in her thought, listening to the resonances between the ardency of holy fire and the aridity of a world aflame. Across Hildegard's cosmos, we hear the anarchic proliferation of her ecological theology, in which both God and greening are circular, without beginning or end. Introduced with a foreword by philosopher Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback and accompanied by cellist Peter Schuback's musical movements, which echo both Hildegard's own compositions and key themes in each chapter of the book, this multifaceted work creates a resonance chamber, in which to discover the living world anew. The original compositions accompanying each chapter are available free for streaming and for download at www.sup.org/greenmass

Download or read book Touch the Sky - the Heart's Safe Haven written by E. A. Vinson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Touch The Sky" is about love. It is a series of love songs or poems. The wondrous love between a man and a woman. The mystery of God's love for a man and a man's love for God in communion in the big things and in the little things of life. The mystery of being sent as a living sign and ambassador of unbound love and of joy unspeakable, knowing the weight of the Presence of the Divine "with" us, through the thick and thin of life, its ups and downs, its great griefs and great joys to this one End - that Love conquer all to make all things as new again. Without love there is no hope. With love our hope is like a great diamond with many faces which shine on us with the many facets of God's face reflected here in so many aspects of life. The facets of His Love are like a rock not hewn by human hands with which He draws and makes us His. "Touch The Sky" contains treasure that the author has brought back from diving trips beneath the surface of the seen where the net of thought drips words back into the the ungraspable whole of it.
