Download or read book The Creators written by May Sinclair and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2004-11-30 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: May Sinclair's The Creators is a study of a group of writers and would-be writers and their struggles and/or accommodations withing the literary marketplace. It deals with the trials and tribulations of literary celebrity and with lack of recognition. It also focuses on the doubts and self-divisions of the artist and on his or her battles with conventional gender roles. The novel's subtitle - 'a comedy' - puzzled some of its first readers and reviewers, the TLS to speculate that the comedy must lie in that fact that the creators believe that they are geniuses. Sinclair does not take her characters as seriously as they take themselves, but her social comedy also exposes the limitations of the conventional middle-class world which either exploits or fails to understand them. First serialized in the Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine between November 1909 and October 1910, The Creators was first published in book form by John Constable in 1910. This edition restored the numerous and extensive cuts that were made to Sinclair's manuscript during the process of the novel's serialization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone knows the common stories of creation on earth and humanity. Every religion has almost the same story, even very similar character names. Have you ever wondered why so many religions have the same story and the same pre-history? Perhaps it is because they all experienced the same event in pre-history before they got split across the planet and lost contact with each other and yet the stories of creation remained. There have been theories expressed that a group of advanced beings seeded the galaxies in the ancient past. However, what if this is only partly the case. Lets take a look back into one possible pre-history event that might give rise to such stories of creation. Once such advanced civilization had advanced intergalactic space travel capabilities. This is the story of that civilization starting with their home planet.

Summary Book Review Maya Sacred Geography and the Creator Deities by Karen Bassie-Sweet:
Download or read book Maya Sacred Geography and the Creator Deities written by Karen Bassie-Sweet and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2014-10-22 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The K’iche’ Maya creation story preserved in the sixteenth-century manuscript Popol Vuh describes the origin of the world and its people in a setting long assumed to be the Guatemalan central highlands. Now a scholar with a deep knowledge of Maya history shows that all of these mythological events occurred at specific locations and that this landscape was the template for the Maya worldview. Examining the primary Maya deities, Karen Bassie-Sweet links geographic features to gods and beliefs. She reconstructs key elements of the Popol Vuh to argue that the three volcanoes around Lake Atitlan were the three thunderbolt gods and that the lake was the center of the world. She also shows that the Maya view of the creation of humans is centered on corn and examines core beliefs about the corn cycle to propose that the creation myth was established much earlier in Maya history than previously supposed. Generously illustrated, Maya Sacred Geography and the Creator Deities is a detailed ethnohistorical analysis of Maya religion, cosmology, and ritual practice that convincingly links mythology to the land. A comprehensive treatment of Maya religion, it provides an essential resource for scholars and will fascinate any reader captivated by these ancient beliefs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On December 11, 2009, Author William Moreira embarked upon a South American cruise aboard the Costa Concordia. In the wee hours of that first sleepless night, as the cruiser steamed for its first port of call, he decided to take a stroll along the ships top deck. There was no moon, and the dark ocean and sky met and fused into one. The only demarcation between heaven and hell was the glistening light of the infinite galaxies and stars. Suddenly, filled with an incredible feeling of inspiration, Moreira put pen to paper, words exploding onto the page. He wrote and wrote, not stopping until a burst of morning sunshine climbed over the horizon to announce the arrival of a new day of Gods great creation. Over the course of seven similar nights, God! The Realities of the Creator was born. This labor of love, inspired by the great canvas known as the universe, explores the deep theological and philosophical questions that reside deep within our hearts: Who is God? What is God? How did the Universe come to be? Moreira weaves his answers into a larger tapestry of personal stories and anecdotes, making God! The Realities of the Creator both engaging and relatable. He concludes by offering an eleventh commandment to deal with complexities of a changing world.
