Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modern state of Israel has been a nation for almost 70 years. When she was formed and fought her early wars of existence, most Bible-believing Christians believed there was a real connection with what was going on in the Middle East and Bible prophecy that predicts an end-time return of the Jews to their land. While support for Israel remains high in most evangelical communities, we are seeing the beginning of a decline, especially among younger evangelicals, who question whether modern Israel really relates to end-time Bible prophecy. The Case for Zionism attempts to bring together biblical, historical, and legal arguments for the legitimacy of the startup nation known as Israel as it: Explains controversies such as antisemitism and Replacement Theology Details the biblical and legal rights of Modern Israel Explores the prophetic nature and future of Israel. In this presentation, Thomas Ice answers many of the contemporary arguments being used by both secular and religious communities to undermine what he believes is the hand of God at work in our own day.

Summary Book Review Does Israel Have a Future? by Constance Hilliard:

Download or read book Does Israel Have a Future? written by Constance Hilliard and published by Potomac Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jewish people are in greater danger than ever before. Given the debacle in Iraq, many Americans who had not taken a serious interest in the Middle East have begun asking themselves, What are we doing wrong? Why do we keep misreading the signals coming from that part of the world? More fundamentally, where will Israel be in two, five, ten years from now? Should Zionism be replaced by a post-Zionist state that welcomes all people, rather than one that privileges only the Jews? Will there even be a Jewish state? These are the questions Constance Hilliard addresses in Does Israel Have a Future?, forgoing polemics and wishful thinking for straight talk and painful truths. In this thoroughly researched book, Hilliard presents an honest assessment of the Jewish state's chances for survival given the forces ranged against it. The discussions about the future of the Jewish state analyzed in this book are some of the most significant to engage Israelis since 1948, dominating the airwaves, newspapers, and café conversations. Distilling these disparate views into a simple, straightforward exploration of one of the most explosive issues of our time--one into which few people outside Israel have delved as deeply as Hilliard has--the author presents a provocative argument that will appeal to scholars and students of international affairs, political science, and the Middle East, as well as general readers concerned about Israel's future.

Summary Book Review Zionist Israel and Apartheid South Africa by Amneh Badran:

Download or read book Zionist Israel and Apartheid South Africa written by Amneh Badran and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-09-10 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comparison of two ethnic-national "apartheid" states – South Africa and Israel – which have been in conflict, and how internal dissent has developed. In particular it examines the evolution of effective white protest in South Africa and explores the reasons why comparably powerful movements have not emerged in Israel. The book reveals patterns of behaviour shared by groups in both cases. It argues that although the role played by protest groups in peace-building may be limited, a tipping point, or ‘magic point’, can become as significant as other major factors. It highlights the role played by intermediate variables that affect the pathways of protest groups: such as changes in the international system; the visions and strategies of resistance movements and their degree of success; the economic relationship between the dominant and dominated side; and the legitimacy of the ideology in power (apartheid or Zionism). Although the politics and roles of protest groups in both cases share some similarities, differences remain. Whilst white protest groups moved towards an inclusive peace agenda that adopts the ANC vision of a united non-racial democratic South Africa, the Jewish Israeli protest groups are still, by majority, entrenched in their support for an exclusive Jewish state. And as such, they support separation between the two peoples and a limited division of mandatory Palestine / ‘Eretz Israel’. This timely book sheds light on a controversial and explosive political issue: Israel being compared to apartheid South Africa.

Book excerpt: Focuses on Kreisky's assimilationist views and hostility toward Zionism, which stemmed from his adoption of the view of Austrian Socialists, like Kautsky and Bauer, that the Jews are not a people and therefore do not deserve to have an independent state. Kreisky's antipathy to Zionism had its roots in his dismissal of Judaism as the fossilized ghetto offshoot of a dispersed ethno-religious group lacking any national characteristics. He rejected any distinctive Jewish identity (such as that of the Ostjuden) and stressed his Austrian identity. During the Nazi period, Kreisky was arrested in January 1935 and again in March 1938, but was released and allowed to immigrate to Sweden. He attributed his persecution to political, not racial, discrimination. Kreisky exculpated the Austrian masses from involvement in the Holocaust, wishing for Austrians to put the past behind them. As Austria's Chancellor, he strongly criticized Simon Wiesenthal for seeking out ex-Nazis, whom he was quite willing to forgive. He identified with Social Democratic Sweden, where he found refuge during the war, and felt no attachment to Israel. He condemned the latter for its "apartheid" policies, while sympathizing with Arab nationalism and overlooking Arab terrorism. Kreisky's success in promoting his Austrian identity made him an honorary "Aryan" for pan-German nationalists. His views provided a model for anti-Zionists among the European liberal and leftist intelligentsia.

Download or read book Zionism’s Redemptions written by Arieh Saposnik and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, Arieh Saposnik examines the complicated relations between nationalism and religious (and non-religious) redemptive traditions through the case study of Zionism. He provides a new framework for understanding the central ideas of this movement and its relationship to traditional Jewish ideas, Christian thought, and modern secular messianisms. Providing a longue-durée and broad view of the central themes and motivations in the making of Zionism, Saposnik connects its intellectual history with the concrete development of the Zionist project in Israel in its cultural, social, and political history. Saposnik demonstrates how Zionism offers lessons for a politics in which human perfectibility continues to serve as a guiding light and as a counter-narrative to the contemporary politics of self-interest, self-promotion and 'post-truth.' This is a study that bears implications for our understanding of modernity, of space and place, history and historical trajectories, and the place of Jews and Judaism in the modern world.
