This book was released on 2009-01-26 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New MSCT machines produce a volume data set with the highestisotropic spatial resolution ever seen, offering superb 3D imagesof the entire heart and vessels. The texts currently available on cardiac CT imaging mainly focuson visualizing pathological aspects of coronary arteries. Anatomyof the Heart by Multislice Computed Tomography is the first text tobridge the gap between classical anatomy textbooks and CTtextbooks, presenting a side-by-side comparison of‘electronic’ dissection made by CT scanning andtraditionally hand-made anatomical dissection. Focusing on the fundamentals as well as the details of cardiacanatomy in a clinical setting using MSCT, this is an invaluablereference for cardiac imaging trainees, cardiologists, radiologists, interventionists and electrophysiologists, providinga better understanding of the cardiac structures, coronary arteriesand veins anatomy and their 3-dimensional spatialrelationships.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This heart anatomy book describes the cardiac development and cardiac anatomy in the development of the adult heart, and is illustrated by numerous images and examples. It contains 550 images of dissected embryo and adult hearts, obtained through the dissection and photography of 235 hearts. It has been designed to allow the rapid understanding of the key concepts and that everything should be clearly and graphically explained in one book. This is an atlas of cardiac development and anatomy of the human heart which distinguishes itself with the use of 550 images of embryonic, fetal and adult hearts and using text that is logical and concise. All the mentioned anatomical structures are shown with the use of suggestive dissection images to emphasize the details and the overall location. All the images have detailed comments, while clinical implications are suggested. The dissections of different hearts exemplify the variability of the cardiac structures. The electron and optical microscopy images are sharp and provide great fidelity. The arterial molds obtained using methyl methacrylate are illustrative and the pictures use suggestive angles. The dissections were made on human normal and pathological hearts of different ages, increasing the clinical utility of the material contained within.

Download or read book History of Anatomy written by R. Shane Tubbs and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-02-12 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique biographical review of the global contributors to field of anatomy Knowledge of human anatomy has not always been an essential component of medical education and practice. Most European medical schools did not emphasize anatomy in their curricula until the post-Renaissance era; current knowledge was largely produced between the 16th and 20th centuries. Although not all cultures throughout history have viewed anatomy as fundamental to medicine, most have formed ideas about the internal and external mechanisms of the body—influences on the field of anatomy that are often overlooked by scholars and practitioners of Western medicine. History of Anatomy: An International Perspective explores the global and ancient origins of our modern-day understanding of anatomy, presenting detailed biographies of anatomists from varied cultural and historical settings. Chapters organized by geographic region, including Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, review the lives of those that helped shape our current understanding of the human form. Examining both celebrated and lesser-known figures, this comprehensive work examines their contributions to the discipline and helps readers develop a global perspective on a cornerstone of modern medicine and surgery. Offers a comprehensive and multidisciplinary examination of the history of anatomy Traces the emergence of modern knowledge of anatomy from ancient roots to the modern era Fills a gap in current literature on global perspectives on the history of anatomy Written by an internationally recognized team of practicing physicians and scholars History of Anatomy: An International Perspective is an engaging and insightful historical review written for anatomists, anthropologists, physicians, surgeons, medical personnel, medical students, health related professionals, historians, and anyone interested in the history of anatomy, surgery, and medicine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hearts and Heart-Like Organs, Volume 1: Comparative Anatomy and Development focuses on the complexities of the heart and heart-like organs in various species, from the invertebrates and the lower vertebrates to humans. More specifically, it investigates the hearts of worms and mollusks, urochordates and cephalochordates, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and humans. Organized into 11 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of myogenic hearts and their origin, the circulatory system of the annelids, and the nervous control and pharmacology of mollusk hearts. It then discusses the phyletic relationships and circulation systems of primitive chordates, cardiovascular function in the lower vertebrates, fine structure of the heart and heart-like organs in cyclostomes, and fine structure as well as impulse propagation and ultrastructure of lymph hearts in amphibians and reptiles. It also explains the neural control of the avian heart, functional and nonfunctional determinants of mammalian cardiac anatomy, postnatal development of the heart, and anatomy of the mammalian heart. The book concludes with a chapter on the anatomy of the human pericardium and heart. This book is a valuable resource for biological and biomedical researchers concerned with the anatomy and physiology of the heart.

This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revolution began in my professional career and education in 1997. In that year, I visited the University of Minnesota to discuss collaborative opportunities in cardiac anatomy, physiology, and medical device testing. The meeting was with a faculty member of the Department of Anesthesiology, Professor Paul Iaizzo. I didn’t know what to expect but, as always, I remained open minded and optimistic. Little did I know that my life would never be the same. . . . During the mid to late 1990s, Paul Iaizzo and his team were performing anesthesia research on isolated guinea pig hearts. We found the work appealing, but it was unclear how this research might apply to our interest in tools to aid in the design of implantable devices for the cardiovascular system. As discussions progressed, we noted that we would be far more interested in reanimation of large mammalian hearts, in particular, human hearts. Paul was confident this could be accomplished on large hearts, but thought that it would be unlikely that we would ever have access to human hearts for this application. We shook hands and the collaboration was born in 1997. In the same year, Paul and the research team at the University of Minnesota (including Bill Gallagher and Charles Soule) reanimated several swine hearts. Unlike the previous work on guinea pig hearts which were reanimated in Langendorff mode, the intention of this research was to produce a fully functional working heart model for device testing and cardiac research.
Summary Book Review CT Atlas of Adult Congenital Heart Disease by Wojciech Mazur:
Download or read book CT Atlas of Adult Congenital Heart Disease written by Wojciech Mazur and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-01 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The bulk of this book then goes on to completely review the field of adult congenital heart disease using text and more importantly a multitude of pictorial examples (in color and grey scale) to demonstrate the abnormalities. Drawings accompany each picture to better explain the example. Furthermore, difficult and complex anatomical examples are supplemented with digital images and movies to aid in illustrating and understanding the anatomy. Each general set of anomalies as well as each specific abnormality or set of abnormalities includes a concise and simple review of the embryology and epidemiology of the abnormality as well as a concise explanation of the anatomy of the abnormality. In addition, the methods to identify and recognize the abnormality by computed tomography is discussed. Finally, the prognosis and common treatment options for the anomaly are addressed within this comprehensive book.
