Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrate the best building envelope construction methods, materials science, and structural principles in your work using this book as a resource to help you... With more than seventy significant case studies located in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia from prehistory to the present, this book illuminates the theory and techniques of assembling exteriors. Six chapters organized by wall types, from hand-set monolithic walls to digitally fabricated curtain walls, each have a material focus section to help you understand their intrinsic properties so that you can decide which will best keep the weather out of your building. Examples from the ancient world, including the Pyramids and the Great Wall, through a range of renowned modern architects, such as Studio Gang, Sauerbruch Hutton, Herzog and deMeuron, and Rafael Moneo, illustrate how significant works in the history of architecture explored innovative use of materials – stone, brick, concrete, glass, and aluminium. Along the way, principles of construction from masonry and basic framing through ever more sophisticated envelope systems address classic problems presented by gravity, wind, rain, and sun with studies of lateral forces, building movements and materials that bridge the gaps in between them.

This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy efficient lighting is said to be one of the most cost-effective approaches to save energy and reduce C02 emissions. In order to stimulate the application of lighting retrofits of good quality, IEA Task 50, Subtask B “Daylighting and Electric Lighting solutions” has looked into the assessment of existing and new technical retrofit solutions in the field of façade and daylighting technology, electric lighting and lighting controls. The document provides information for those involved in the development of retrofit products or involved in the decision making process of a retrofit project, such as buildings owners, authorities, designers and consultants, as well as the lighting and façade industry. This source book addresses both electric lighting solu¬tions and daylighting solutions, and offers a method to compare these retrofit solutions on a common basis, including a wide range of quality criteria of cost-related and lighting quality aspects. Simple retrofits, such as replacing a lamp or adding interior blinds, are widely accepted, often applied because of their low initial costs or short payback periods. The work presented in this report aims at promoting state-of-the-art and new lighting retrofit approaches that might cost more but offer a further reduction of energy consumption while improving lighting quality to a greater extend.

Download or read book Spon's Architect's and Builders' Price Book 2016 written by AECOM and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-09 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strong output demand over the last year has stretched the industry. The issues are being felt by all firms across the delivery chain – from clients to subcontractors. Capacity constraints almost always manifest themselves in prices. Increased tender prices have become the primary symptom of these supply-side issues. The main driver of new work output growth over the last 18 months is slowing. Both the public and private housing sectors are quickly reversing all of their recent upward trends when looked at on a yearly growth basis. The counterpoint to this is that the yearly growth figures are still positive, meaning that new work continues to flow. SPON’S ARCHITECTS’ AND BUILDERS’ PRICE BOOK 2016, compiled by AECOM, still provides the most accurate, detailed and professionally relevant construction price information for the UK. Its unique Tender Index, updated through the year, gives an ongoing reality check and allows you to adjust for changing market conditions. Although it suits a wide range of project sizes, this is the only price book which sets out a detailed cost base for contracts exceeding £3,500,000 in value. Use the access code inside the front cover of the book to get set up with internet access to this 2016 edition until the end of December 2016. We now provide SPON’S Online, a versatile and powerful online data viewing package -- online or offline on your PC/Mac, smartphone or tablet. You can browse and search the content across all the price books you own, make notes and highlights and share these notes with other users. Major changes have been made to this 141st edition: For the first time, plant prices have been separated out in the measured works section. As well as an overhaul of prices, several new items have been added, including: Two new cost models for a stand-alone private patient ward within a larger hospital complex, and an extra care home An expanded range of ACO drainage channels Precast concrete ‘Perfect Manholes’ by CPM Shower-wall laminated panelling walling An expanded range of architectural pre-finished blockwork ... along with the standard features you have come to expect from SPON’S ARCHITECTS’ AND BUILDERS’ PRICE BOOK: 20,000 prices for the most frequently specified items, the majority with labour constants and detailed build-ups. Hundreds of alternative materials prices for the more unusual items. Detailed guidance on wage rates, daywork, cost limits and allowances, property insurance and professional fees, plus useful formulae, design criteria and trade association addresses. Updated, free of charge, two or three times a year – see inside for registration details. Updates are available online at www.pricebooks.co.uk Other titles in the Spon’s Price Book Series: SPON’S MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SERVICES PRICE BOOK 2016 SPON’S CIVIL ENGINEERING AND HIGHWAY WORKS PRICE BOOK 2016 SPON’S EXTERNAL WORKS AND LANDSCAPE PRICE BOOK 2016

Following the 18% fall in tender prices between 2008 and 2013, price levels are beginning to recover some lost ground, particularly in the residential sector and with London based projects. It is important to make sure tenders are competitive, whilst minimising your risk as input material prices and labour rates continue to rise and tender prices are forecast to increase an average of 4.5% over the next 3 years, reaching the pre 2008 recession levels in 2017. He investigates facade typologies with multiple material layers to strategize the relationship between buildings and their environment. By revisiting Le Corbusier ́s seminal brise soleil an alternative reading of the modern project emerges: one that is not based on classical compositional rules, but instead on the dynamic relationships with environmental forces. Finally, an exciting series of project-based investigations sets out innovative ways in which novel deep skins combine energy-conscious performance with the poetics of architecture.
