Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joel Osteen, the smiling preacher, has quickly emerged as one of the most recognizable Protestant leaders in the country. His megachurch, the Houston based Lakewood Church, hosts an average of over 40,000 worshipers each week. Osteen is the best-selling author of numerous books, and his sermons and inspirational talks appear regularly on mainstream cable and satellite radio. How did Joel Osteen become Joel Osteen? How did Lakewood become the largest megachurch in the U. S.? Salvation with a Smile, the first book devoted to Lakewood Church and Joel Osteen, offers a critical history of the congregation by linking its origins to post-World War II neopentecostalism, and connecting it to the exceptionally popular prosperity gospel movement and the enduring attraction of televangelism. In this richly documented book, historian Phillip Luke Sinitiere carefully excavates the life and times of Lakewood’s founder, John Osteen, to explain how his son Joel expanded his legacy and fashioned the congregation into America’s largest megachurch. As a popular preacher, Joel Osteen’s ministry has been a source of existential strength for many, but also the routine target of religious critics who vociferously contend that his teachings are theologically suspect and spiritually shallow. Sinitiere’s keen analysis shows how Osteen’s rebuttals have expressed a piety of resistance that demonstrates evangelicalism’s fractured, but persistent presence. Salvation with a Smile situates Lakewood Church in the context of American religious history and illuminates how Osteen has parlayed an understanding of American religious and political culture into vast popularity and success.

Book excerpt: For Conrad, moving to Overton was the promise of a fresh start, a way to escape the pain and ridicule, and leave behind the hateful words that reminded him every day he was a monster. He would not make the same mistake again. He would keep his other-self hidden, his heart shielded. Or that had been his intention. The moment his gaze met Ashley's, his resolve faltered. With a single, disarming glance, she became all he could think about; an infatuation he knew must be shed. But she was human, incompatible with his kind. To love her would be to one day watch her burn. He had thought wrestling with his heart was his biggest concern, but his new friends harbour a secret. They hold the answers to one of the most burning questions of their time. But how much is Conrad willing to sacrifice to get those answers? This book contains graphic sex and is not suitable for readers under the age of 18.

Book excerpt: The world is not in need of those who will fix errors of humanity but in dire need of matured Christians who would use their gifts to communicate the word of God and lead their families, the Church, communities and their countries in the way of righteousness. Very few of them, however, seem to have what it takes to take their positions as leaders and ministers in their spheres despite their God-given potentials. Thus this Course Book - a compilation of five resource materials on Christian Oral Communications, Christian Drama Communications, Christian Musical Communications, Christian Human Resources and Children Evangelism - makes serious attempts to introduce everybody into various creative ministries that are required in the Body of Christ and in the world. It teaches in a simple manner the management of human resources and the ways Christians can use their gifts to reach out to souls through speaking, writing, drama, media, musical and children ministries. The resource materials equip and help individuals to identify their callings, providing Biblical principles and guidelines on how to be effective and productive in the service of the Lord in spite of the hostile environments.

Her saviors, Terry and Les—recruited by future scientists to gather lost historical data and DNA samples—must also transport the precious crystelix, a navigation device crucial to the Angeléka, the spacecraft that will carry them all away from the Earth to a new future settlement of humanity. The crystelix is not only precious in getting the Angeléka back to her home era and planet, however. As they carry its valuable components through multiple realities, the three must learn and adapt to new timelines that hold both wonder and horror, staying clear of danger, would-be thieves, and even a possible traitor. Through it all, they must also come to terms with personal demons. Gussalen, chased by specters of damnation, endures a future shock that is completely lost on Terry. A happy-go-lucky runaway born in the 1970s, Terry is not always in sync with Les, a disciplined Desert Storm veteran battling his own traumatic memories. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Staying Happy, Healthy and Hot, author and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame radio personality Dick Summer introduces us to his brand new “Louie Louie Generation.” Louie Louie Ladies and Lads don’t look like the people in the beer commercials with their fancy abs and perky breasts any more. But like their theme song, they have an avalanche of “attitude.” It’s a happy attitude. And as you know, being happy helps keep you healthy. And when you’re healthy you tend to be hot. Staying Happy, Healthy And Hot is a collection of true stories about Dick Summer’s life as a husband, a father, a grandfather, and just an every day guy. There are stories about his days as a national broadcasting personality, his career as a hypnotherapist and his passion for flying his airplane. But mostly it tells about his long, hot romance with his wife Barbara, or as he calls her, “My Lady Wonder Wench.” With humor and candor, this memoir shows how one man refuses to allow all the candles on his birthday cake to set off any sprinkler system that could put out the fire in his love affair with life, and with his wife.

Summary Book Review Westward Ho! by Charles Kingsley:
Download or read book Westward Ho! written by Charles Kingsley and published by . This book was released on 1889 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Kingsley's Westward Ho! is the novel after which the English seaside village was named. The story follows the adventures of Amyas Leigh, an obstinate young man who decides to go sailing. He settles for a certain period in the Caribbean islands searching for gold and succeeds in making a little fortune. He then decides to go back to England by the time of the Spanish Armada, a sixteenth-century Spanish fleet that intended to invade England and overthrow Queen Elizabeth I for rivalry over colonies in the Netherlands, the Atlantic and the Pacific. Much of the novel describes the struggles between the two world powers, picturing the continuous naval battles that they engaged in. Amayas becomes greatly concerned when the Spaniards abduct his brother Frank Leigh as well as an admired local beauty named Rose Salterne. Furthermore, Amyas's life turns into a sad tragedy when he is further struck by a thunderbolt that costs him his eyesight. Generally, Kingsley gives the story a religious touch by making the war between England and Spain equally appear like a war between Protestantism and Catholicism, particularly when he shows how English hostages are often burnt at the stake by the Catholic Inquisition.
