Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The is a book of prayers and devotional observances. Among the religious traditions of humanity the Imami Shi'ah tradition within Islam is unmatched in its rich corpus of devotional texts (du'a and ziyarah literature) handed down from the original leaders of the faith, the Prophet Muhammad and the Imams of his family, the Ahl al-Bayt.The Mafatih al-Jinan is the most popular manual of Islamic devotional observances and prayer-texts by Shaykh Abbas Qummi, which draws its contents from well-known, reliable sources. As a manual of devotional literature, the Mafatih al-Jinan follows a long tradition established by the Misbah al-Mutahajjid of Shaykh Tusi (d. 460/1067) and followed up in the works of Sayyid Ibn Tawus (d. 664/1265), Kaf'ami (d. 905/1499) and others. Most of the contents of the Mafatih are drawn from these earlier works. Since its publication, the Mafatih has enjoyed an uncontested popularity among Farsi-speaking Muslims, and its Arabic and Urdu versions are widely used by the devout in the Arab world and the Indian subcontinent.

Summary Book Review I Love You and There Is Nothing You Can Do About It by Gerard Houarner:
Download or read book I Love You and There Is Nothing You Can Do About It written by Gerard Houarner and published by Crossroad Press. This book was released on 2016-01-23 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twelve tales of the human condition as seen from the dark side, through the lens of myth, nightmare, romance, the weird and the surreal. The collection’s title story sets the table, turning over love’s joy to explore where such an emotion might come from, and what it might cost. Other stories include: -“The Question Man,” in which Derek is compelled to find the answers to the questions of a mysterious caller -“Spider Goes to Market” finds the trickster god Spider caught in the horrors of the African slave trade -“The Dead Mothers’ Club” seeks to answer the question of what happens to the children who cannot recover from the loss of their mothers - “Twelve Nights” is the length of time it takes for a man to transform into something else, once the reality of what he knew to be his life is broken Other stories included in this collection are "The Oddist", "The Lighted Window", "The Good Dead", "Five Pregnant Vampires", "The Abandoned Mother", "Our Lady of the Jars", and "Not an Exit". From the first print edition of this collection, John Pelan writes in his introduction: Gerard Houarner is an artist, one that’s not afraid to venture into new territories and try different hues and shades in his prose painting. The artist has hung an entirely new show in his gallery, and it’s well worth coming in to view, the admission fee is inexpensive and the memories will linger a lifetime. And, from Asimov’s SF Magazine, Paul Di Filippo writes in his On Books Review: …the stories that flesh out this book (flesh bruised and broken) are hardly romantic trifles, cynical or otherwise. They are instead Grand Guignolish shockers reminiscent of John Shirley’s work. Houarner’s introductions show a concerned and ethical individual at work, and his sharp literary skills insure that he always adheres closely to his personal moral compass, without sacrificing horrific impact. “Out Lady of the Jars” is my favorite here, straying as it does into the Borgesian territory of imaginary beings.

Download or read book Besides You I Desire Nothing on Earth written by Emad Mikhaiel and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: King David has an important role in the Old and New Testaments and huge impact on the nation of Israel. The Father witnessed and said about David, "I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart." (Acts 13:22) The Lord Jesus, Son of David, witnessed, "How then does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord, ' saying ..." (Matthew 22:43) The Holy Bible said about him, "Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him." (1 Samuel 16:18) A great man like that, who went through a lot in his life from being uncounted among his brothers to become a king of all Israel, who experienced distress, joy, victory, defeat, with a heart after God's heart-it is worthy to know how he, by the Holy Spirit, expressed all these feelings and put them in the psalms. This book will search that heart to bring out of his treasure things new and old. (Matthew 13:52)
Summary Book Review Let Nothing You Dismay by Mark o'Donnell:
Download or read book Let Nothing You Dismay written by Mark o'Donnell and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2011-07-20 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his brilliant new novel, the first since the widely enjoyed Getting Over Homer, Mark O'Donnell takes us on a wild and funny tour through the Christmas season's ultimate challenge: the day of too many parties. It's Christmas Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve in Manhattan--five days from the holiday Ground Zero--but Tad Leary, the most confused man on earth, doesn't know whether to celebrate or go crazy. He's just been fired, he's about to be evicted from his sublet, he's getting nowhere on his overdue folklore thesis, "Social Hierarchies of Imaginary Places," and on top of everything else--or rather underneath everything else--at age thirty-four (older than Christ), he's five-foot-one and still baby-faced, so he's treated like a child wherever he goes. Nonetheless, he's been invited to seven (a magic number one of his rivals is writing a thesis about) different Christmas parties that day, and he decides to explore every one of them for possible work, apartments, love, and just plain distraction. Tad's a walking punch bowl of joy and fear, goodwill and alienation, running a constant mental argument with himself throughout his long marathon. By midnight, he will have visited all parts of his past--from brunch with his rumpled Boston Irish parents and arguably more successful brothers, to dinner with his beautiful Swedish ex-girlfriend, to a fancy, colossal uptown bash where, by now dangerously looped, he bumps into an ex-boyfriend (more confusion!) looking as "glorious and golden as a roast turkey." A farcical, over-the-top feast of twisted one-liners and outrageous imagery, Let Nothing You Dismay depicts Tad's--and everyone's--struggle for survival, with a bracing combination of Darwinian theory and hallucinatory fairy-tale wonder. It's a Chekhov story told with P. G. Wodehouse flippancy, or a tale of Celtic mysticism as S. J. Perelman might have rendered it. Above all, the bright spots in this darkest night of the soul prove that comical epiphany isn't just for Christmas anymore.

The dreamers, the restless, the builders, the vultures--they were lured by the glittering promise of instant riches and survived the brutal hardships of a mining camp to raise a legendary boom town. But some sought more than wealth. Val Trevallion, a loner haunted by a violent past. Grita Redaway, a radiantly beautiful actress driven by an unfulfilled need. Two fiercely independent spirits, together they rose above the challenges of the Comstock to stake a bold claim on the future. Additionally, many beloved classics will be rereleased with an exclusive Lost Treasures postscript featuring previously unpublished material, including outlines, plot notes, and alternate drafts.
