Book excerpt: FOR NEARLY 150 years, the Review and Herald has been the official church paper of the Seventh-day Adventist people. A paper, The Present Truth, was first printed in August 1849. In 1851 the name was changed to Second Advent Review and Sabbath Herald. Over the decades the church paper has carried a number of names, and as of 2012 it is simply Adventist Review. Our “church paper”actually preceded, by fourteen years, the official organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1863. From its inception, throughout her life, the messenger of the Lord, Ellen G. White, used the Review and Herald as one of the main avenues of communicating God’s counsels to His remnant people. During that sixty-six year span nearly 2,000 messages by God of direction, reproof, and inspiration were published in the Review and Herald. This present edition has all of her articles, published through 1915, unabridged in four volumes.

Download or read book God's Magnificent Eight written by Dr. Ernan Norman and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-01-27 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “AND SAMPSON SAID TO THE YOUNG MAN WHO HELD HIM BY THE HAND, ‘LET ME FEEL THE PILLARS ON WHICH THE HOUSE RESTS, THAT I MAY LEAN AGAINST THEM’” (Judges 16:26, ESV) Mark Finely has rightly said that there are “seven basic teachings” on which God has built His church. “Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars.” These seven pillars are essential, and “the non-negotiables:” Scripture (John 17:17) Salvation (John 3:16) Second Coming (John 14:1-3) Sabbath (John 14:15) State of the Dead (John 11:11-26) Sanctuary (John 17:4, 11, 24) Holy Spirit and Spirit of Prophecy (John 14:15-17) (Prov. 9:1; Mark Finely, Solid Ground, p. 374) “The house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” is built on these seven pillars, 1 Tim. 3:15. Because of this, Dr. Norman identifies the church as an eight pillar. This eight pillar rests on the other seven “non-negotiables.” These “non-negotiables” are in turn rooted and grounded in Christ, and they define who we are as a biblical community of faith. Tragically though, great uncertainty concerning the pillars abound. The “non-negotiables” are under assault. And this assault will intensify as a mighty sifting sieve. “Those who seek to remove the old landmarks . . . bring in theories that would remove the pillars of our faith concerning the sanctuary . . . [they are] working as blind men . . . [they are] seeking to bring in uncertainties and to set the people of God adrift without an anchor,” (E. G. White, Manuscript Release No. 760. P. 9, 1905). If there ever was a time, we needed the resolve of Sampson, it is now! The author hopes that this book will inspire this resolve—a resolve that will lead us back to the pillars; back to the “non-negotiables.” Like Sampson, may we feel the pillars once again, and lean on “the non-negotiables” centered in Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This explosive work contains a great deal of highly documented material on the life and movement of Ellen G. White that Adventists in general, to say nothing of the public, will not know. The book is not a classic psychobiography, although history and psychology are the primary disciplines employed. It also contains a sprinkling of theology and personal reflection to make it a unique blend. The most striking evidence presented raises major questions about the prophet’s mental and moral health. It is a must read for anyone who truly wants to understand Seventh-Day Adventism and its prophetic founder. A devastating work. What Numbers and Rea started, your book will finish! —John Dart (1936-2019), longtime religion editor, Los Angeles Times I enjoyed the writing and the stories. The anecdotes you included enriched the content. Your writing was personal, and I think readers will feel that you are writing to them, and makes the book of increased value. There is the same question with Joseph Smith. Why do people stay in the face of such documentation? What are the forces that keep them tied to source documentation of fraud? —Dr. Robert Anderson, psychiatrist, author, Inside the Mind of Joseph Smith: Psychobiography and the Book of Mormon I found the material fascinating, a powerful polemic! —Ronald Numbers, William Coleman professor of History, University of Wisconsin-Madison, author, Prophetess of Health

Book excerpt: "My Weight Loss Journey" is not a scientific book; it is not based on specific research and is not designed to serve as a textbook. However, this book is mostly about my own experience and the spiritual awakening that occurred as a result of adopting a healthier lifestyle. One point I want to underline is that it is never too late, and with God's assistance, we can do it. Certain persons argue that I have been like way since childhood and that there is nothing that can be done to modify my behavior. I shared that belief, but God provided a way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the interrelation of literacy and religion as practiced by Western Christians in, first, historical contexts and, second, in one contemporary church setting. Using both a case study and a Foucauldian theoretical framework, the book provides a sustained analysis of the reciprocal discursive construction of literacy, religiosity and identity in one Seventh-day Adventist Church community of Northern Australia. Critical linguistic and discourse analytic theory is used to disclose processes of theological (church), familial (home) and educational (school) normalisation of community members into regulated ways of hearing and speaking, reading and writing, being and believing. Detailed analyses of spoken and written texts taken from institutional and local community settings show how textual religion is an exemplary technology of the self, a politics constituted by canonical texts, interpretive norms, textual practices, ritualised events and sociopolitical protocols that, ultimately, are turned in upon the self. The purpose of these analyses is to show how, across denominational difference in belief (tradition) and practice, particular versions of self and society are constructed through economies of truth from text that constrain what can and cannot be articulated and enacted by believers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She is held in high esteem as a prophetess of God to millions of Seventh-day Adventists. According to their books and research, she passes every test of a Biblical prophet. However, not all the information is being shared. This book will reveal 200 amazing and shocking things that Ellen G. White said that the SDA Church doesn't want you to know about. This book was written to expose sincere Bible loving Adventists to a side of Mrs. White that they have never seen before. It is my hope that this book will be the truth that sets them free and causes the powers that be in the SDA church to make the Bible, and only the Bible, their source of all authority.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While this story reads like a short police report, Cain and Abel's tragic narrative plays a definitive role in the biblical saga called the great controversy. As we review their story, we might assume that if we had a chance to meet Cain and Abel, just by looking, we could easily determine who was the kind Abel and who was the mean-spirited Cain. Are you sure? Would you be surprised to learn Abel was guilty of viewing Cain from a superficial perspective that gave him a misleading impression of his brother? As we study their lives, it's easy for us to have preconceived ideas because we don't know what was going through Cain's mind until Cain's behavior plainly displays it for all of us to see. It's human to be biased. But that's not God's way of judging! This book dives deeper into the story to reveal God's perspective. I invite you to dive in with me as objectively as possible. Don't prejudge. Be persuaded by biblical evidence-wherever it leads you!

Book excerpt: Contemporary history and progressive revelation regarding the Hebraic festivals are the basis for a renovation of the traditional historicist’s house and its perception of recapitulation in the book of Revelation, which does not disturb the historicist’s view that the papacy is the Antichrist. Under this new interpretation, John’s use of recapitulation was modest as compared with the traditionalist’s view. The new view correlates the prophecies and illustrations of the seven seals with our modern-day market-driven society, the prophetic era of the Laodicean church, the autumnal festivals, and the “the time of the end” in Daniel 8:17. The correspondence of the apocalyptic horsemen of the seven seals with the historical accounts of the Protestant’s rise to prominence and their termination of the churches’ influence in our modern-day commerce is incendiary. Moreover, the correspondence pertaining to autumnal festivals regarding the final judgment and the apocalyptic horsemen of the seven seals is no less provocative. As is the case of all such correlations that come to light through progressive revelation, they become a blessing for the sons and daughters of God and a reproof for those who walk in darkness (Revelation 1:3).

Book excerpt: Respected historian of science Ronald Numbers here examines one of the most influential, yet least examined, religious leaders in American history -- Ellen G. White, the enigmatic visionary who founded the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Numbers scrutinizes White's life (1827-1915), from her teenage visions and testimonies to her extensive advice on health reform, which influenced the direction of the church she founded. This third edition features a new preface and two key documents that shed further light on White -- transcripts of the trial of Elder Israel Dammon in 1845 and the proceedings of the secret Bible Conferences in 1919.
