This book was released on 2017-07-17 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book offers a comprehensive approach to the assessment and treatment of disturbances in facial expression, oral movement, swallowing, breathing, voice and speech production caused by developmental and acquired neurological conditions. The principles outlined are used in patients with different etiologies (e.g. stroke, tumors, traumas). F.O.T. T., developed by Kay Coombes, is a hands-on approach based on an understanding of neurological functions and the way we learn from experience. The approach aims to give the patient experience of physiological posture and movement using facial-oral functions in normal activities of daily living (ADL). Rather than mere “exercises”, F.O.T.T involves meaningful activities aiming to promote participation, according to ICF criteria. Four main areas are covered: nutrition, oral hygiene, nonverbal communication and speech. Each chapter summarises the problems of severely ill patients and shows the clinical reasoning behind the solutions offered. Separate chapters discuss tracheostomy management and the training of the carers involved, including relatives. The chapter authors are experienced specialists (physio-, occupational- and speech-language therapists and physicians), whose contributions aim to provide interdisciplinary perspectives and translate latest research into clinical practice.

Book excerpt: Neurotango® is a holistic tango therapy method developed by Simone Schlafhorst according to the latest scientific studies and findings in brain research, gerontology, learning psychology, and neuro-motor research. The #NeurotangoTools by Simone Schlafhorst, like e.g. dynamics and contra body movements, are borrowed from the Argentine Tango, simplified and complemented by neuromotor, cognitive, and kinesiological exercises for neurological diseases (#NT-Neurotools) and with further pre-exercises for psychologic target groups (#NT-PsychoTools). The concept is intended for the simultaneous stimulation of new brain connections and the creation of new brain patterns in multiple areas. This method is applied Europe-wide by psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, neurologists, and other medical doctors to improve or expand motor, physiological, cognitive, or social abilities. The brain is the only organ that controls the functions of psychological as well as motor, cognitive, and sensory processes. Neurotango® starts right there: as a holistic preventive, secondary preventive, and curative therapy/training/or, coaching method. Neurotango® is a registered European wordmark.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neuro-Coaching and effective Psychotherapy The new way to solve problems and to create a better future! What is this book about? It is about solving mental blocks. Why don't we do something, even though we long for it? Why don't we achieve our goals? Why are we unhappy, depressed and suffered from terrible fears? Something is in our head, which inhibits ourselves. Limits ourselves. So much, that we are not fulfilling our potential and prevent ourselves from being successful. How psychotherapy or coaching, based on physical and physiological - especially neuro-electric - principles can work, can be read here. The humorous work-up is just as informative for laymen as for experienced therapists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A system theory of the mind? It sounds like cybernetics, chaos theory, autopoiesis, or the theory of mind (TOM). This monograph, however, aims to break new ground. Leafing through this book, one notices formulae and unusual characters which seem to join forces and walk across the pages like centipedes. This book is more than challenging for readers who do not come into contact with mathematics regularly. And this is how the author believes he can explain what nobody has thus far been able to explain – how can the mind be understood and how can its state variables be calculated? He draws on quantum physics, a field that is oft en not understood even by its own practitioners. How can such a book expect to reach readers and how can the views included here expect to find adherents? Even scientists who devote themselves to research on the mind are likely to eschew the imaginary and complex numbers, Fourier transformations and quaternions presented here in favour of more established and conventional approaches. Once one has started reading, it soon becomes apparent that it might not be wise – or even possible – to ignore the ideas presented here for long. Prof. Dr. Gerald Wolf (from the foreword) A very interesting book. Explaining mental processes with mathematic formulae seems to be adventurous. However, it is a promising approach! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Summary Book Review Vowed to Community or Ordained to Mission? by Judith Lena Böttcher:

Download or read book Vowed to Community or Ordained to Mission? written by Judith Lena Böttcher and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lena Böttcher offers an overdue exploration of the early years of the deaconess community in Neuendettelsau from a gender perspective. Drawing on rich archival material, she focuses on the process of a distinctive collective identity. Central to this study is the assumption, drawn from the social sciences, that collective identity is a social construction which requires the participation of the whole group through identification and which is consolidated by developing specific rituals, symbols, codes and normative texts, which facilitate integration, and by constructing external boundaries, which separate from the world and the wider church. This approach highlights the fact that the women were not merely passive recipients but participated and contributed to the formation of a distinct Neuendettelsau deaconess culture. Thus, this study offers an explanation for the popularity such institutes enjoyed amongst single and widowed Protestant women in the latter half of the nineteenth century. In consequence, this study significantly widens the scope of historical research on the Institute which so far has tended to take into account solely the male perspective of the Rektoren.
